3a. Updates and Announcements for the 7 September 2010 Resit Exam:

Dear All

I wanted to explain the rationale behind the PMD re- sit exam on September 7th and why it is a shorter exam of 2 hours.

Following the error that occurred with the incorrect case study being issued at the June exam and the obvious upset that this caused, the CIPD External Examiner wanted students who did not pass the exam to be offered a re- sit exam that was as fair as possible given the circumstances. Therefore as the PMD case study questions relate to sections A and B, the External Examiner decided that the re- sit exam should only contain these two sections which has resulted in the exam being reduced to two hours. There will therefore be no section C questions on the re- sit paper.

You will be required to answer one Section A compulsory question comprising 100 marks based on the BabyLove case study and your answer should be integrated with the case study details in the usual way. You will then need to answer one of the question in section B and your answers will need to presented within the context of the case study details, once again in the usual way. As per previous PMD exam papers, the section B questions will be in two parts which, on this occasion, will reflect the same combinations that were on the June exam paper. Therefore the section B questions will be combined as Employee Relations and Learning and Development and Reward and Resourcing and each question will comprise 100 marks in total. Therefore the overall paper will be marked out of 200 with a pass mark of 50%.

Best wishes
Sue Wade
Director of HR Programmes
