Question: What reading materials would you recommend in relation to Understanding Business Organisations?
I would recommend that you get any of Charles Handy's books on organisations - especially "understanding organisations", most public libraries should have this. Other important authors to source material include
1. David Buchanan - he has written on change and organisations
2. Peter Drucker - covers general management and strategy
3. H Mintzberg - focuses on nature of work / organisational development
4. P Kotler - specialises on marketing and management
5. Herzberg - famous for motivational theories in the workplace
Suggest you go to your local public / reference library and see what is there, ask the librarians there for recommendations too. Also to see if your employer / line managers have library / reference material to borrow too. Does someone in your company have "management today" - this is useful general reading. Hope this helps you to get started - you do not need to buy many books - just borrow!
